An incumbent barangay (village) chairman and his companions shot a man who was campaigning for a rival bets in Barangay Bayogo, Madrid, Surigao del Sur Friday morning.

Caraga Police Regional Information Office here identified the suspect as Bayogo chairman Melecio Sumaoy Mejorada.

Mejorada's companions, who also allegedly shot the victim using .45 cal and 9 mm pistols, remained unidentified.

Police said victim Eduardo Roluna, 45, married, and a resident of P-5, Barangay Bayogo was campaigning at the residence of Rogelio Talisic when the suspect and his companions took tuns in shooting him.

Police claimed the victim sustained critical gunshot wounds in the face and body. He was taken to Madrid District Hospital for treatment.

Investigators recovered from the crime scene two empty shells of cal.45; one empty shell of 9mm cal. pistol and two slugs.

Mejorada was arrested by responding policemen. He is now detained at the locked-up jail of the Madrid police station.

Caraga Police Regional Director Chief Supt. Reynaldo S. Rafal ordered thorough investigation of the incident. (PNA)
