Barangay and SK Election in Cordillera Region
« on: October 24, 2010, 09:23:41 PM »
The Commission on Elections (Comelec) on Saturday said that the barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) elections in the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) will push through on Monday, despite the on-going rehabilitation works in areas devastated by super typhoon "Juan".

Comelec regional director Julius Torres said that the suspended elections will only be observed in four towns in Abra, which up to now are isolated due to the enormous landslides which block all their access roads.

Comelec is also considering to suspend the election in one barangay in Tadian, Mountain Province, which is also totally isolated due to so many landslides. That area was hit by typhoon "Pepeng" last year, that caused high number of casualties and loss of properties.

Meanwhile, Torres said that the last day of campaign for the candidates regionwide remain peaceful and orderly as there were yet no reported violence in the localities.

He said that the Comelec and the deputized law enforcers and board of election inspectors are now ready for Monday's balloting. (PNA)
