Ateneo de Davao University (AdDU) and AboitizPower have agreedto increase plant efficiency of the five run-of-river hydropower plants operated by Hedcor, Inc. in this city.
Hedcor president Rene Ronquillo said the AdDU Engineering and Architecture Division will provide site survey, hydro structure measurements and drafting of the construction drawings of the improvement construction to be done at Talomo Hydro 1, 2, 2A, 2B and 3 power plants spread over Barangays Malagos, Mintal, Tugbok and Catalunan Pequeno, all in Davao City.
Ronquillo said AdDU will receive P242,000 from Hedcor as payment for the contracted work.
“We partnered with Ateneo de Davao University knowing they have the capacity to bring out what we require and to help the academe sector in promoting and enhancing the talents and skills of their students,†he said.
Ronquillo said this was not the first time Hedcor collaborated with the academe sector. It even held architectural design competition for the Tamugan Hydropower Plant where AddU, University of Mindanao (UM) and University of the Philippines–Mindanao (UP-Min) participated. A student from UM won the contest.
On the other hand, AdDU’s Engineering and Architectural Division chairperson Jenith Banluta and Engr. Bebot Monteclaro, professor of the civil engineering students, said they were happy and proud to handle the project since this would their first time in power industry.
“Actually, the student-members of the team to handle the project are the cream of the crop and we started training them right after their second semester classes endedâ€, they said.
