Antique's capital to craft more child-friendly programs
« on: May 29, 2020, 01:14:07 AM »
SAN JOSE De BUENAVISTA, Antique -- San Jose de Buenavista Mayor Elmer Untaran on Wednesday said the unique child-friendly programs and projects of their town enabled them to reap several gains including the 2016 Seal of Child-Friendly Local Governance.

In his State of the Children’s Address (SOCA) at the Robinson’s Mall here, Untaran said Antique’s capital town was able to obtain the 2016 Seal of Child-Friendly Local Governance and this year’s Exemplary Child Chynna P. Pajares, a high school student of the Antique National School here, won as first runner up in the regional search.

“When I assumed my post as your Local Chief Executive last June 30, 2016, I laid down my priorities with a strong conviction that I must implement programs and projects that will touch the lives of my people from all walks of life and addressing the needs of the marginalized sectors – children, women, senior citizens and persons with disabilities,” the mayor said.

He said that with the strong support of the members of the Municipal Council for the Protection of Children (MCPC), people’s organizations, non-government organizations and the community, the vision for “A Municipality in which every child attains the right to survival, protection, development and participation towards a child exemplary community” has been crafted and used as guide to turn the plans for children into a reality.

“Our Children’s Code has inspired us to strive for a municipality that recognizes children as important assets of the society,” Untaran said.

He said the two-storey Rural Health Unit II building has the amenities such as laboratory facilities, consultation room, delivery room, medicine dispensary corner, and stock room.

Prenatal checkup is being done in the RHU as well as in the Barangay Health Centers. “Eighty five percent or 1,409 pregnant women undergo regular check-up,” Untaran said.

He added that a massive deworming in schools and barangays are being conducted at least twice a year.

“The LGU has been blessed to have forged a partnership with the Consuelo Zobel Alger Foundation,” he added.

He said the foundation has allocated PHP9.1 million for a three-year partnership for programs that prevent and treat abuse, neglect, and exploitation of children.

The joint venture of the local government’s MCPC and Consuelo Foundation, Inc. has also created a venue where children can showcase their skills and talents as well as prove themselves worthy to become leaders.

Mayor Untaran vowed that more programs and activities would be crafted for the welfare of the children in the coming years. (PNA) NOVEMBER 2017
