Soldiers from the Army's 104th Infantry Brigade were sent to a remote village in Maguindanao following the skirmishes involving two groups Saturday, the Army Monday said.
Colonel Prudencio Asto, speaking for the 6th Infantry Division, said two persons were wounded in the hour-long clash between relatives of former Maguindanao Gov. Andal Ampatuan Sr. and Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF).
"The wounded were members of the Ampatuan clan," Asto said, adding that there was no casualty on the rebels side.
He said the conflict stemmed from previous misunderstanding involving the Ampatuan clan and MILF guerrillas who acted on their own.
"We have enough troops in the area to prevent future skirmishes and prevent evacuation of civilians," he said.
Asto identified the wounded as Sukarno Ampatuan and his 25-year-old son Rohula. The Ampatuans figured in a clash with MILF rebels in Barangay Sampao, Raja Buayan town.
Asto said the government ceasefire panel is contemplating on filing charges against the MILF, under Commander Flash of the 106th base command, for attacking civilian communities in Rajah Buayan.
The Army spokesperson said the village is now quiet and Army detachments were put up to back up the police in maintaining law and order in the village. (PNA)
