The Department of Health (DOH) on Wednesday said six new people were tested positive of human immune-deficiency virus (HIV) last month in Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) bringing to 64 the number of HIV/AIDS cases in the region.
Dr. Celia Flor Brillantes, member of the DOH-CAR epidemiology department, said of the total number, 17 already died.
The six new cases are composed of one female and five males, she said. The five males were found out to have sex with men, she added.
She said the government, in its effort to prevent further spread of the disease, has sustained its educational, counseling, medication and other forms of assistance to people with HIV/AIDS and the vulnerable groups.
"Based on our studies, most of those afflicted are overseas contract workers, entertainers, and others who do not practice monogamy," Brillantes said. (PNA)
