99% of Pangasinan barangays cleared of drugs
« on: May 25, 2020, 08:55:10 PM »
LINGAYEN, Pangasinan -- At least 99 percent of the 1,259 drug-affected barangays of Pangasinan were already declared as drug-cleared by the Philippine National Police (PNP) with only nine barangays left to be cleared to date.

This was revealed by Chief Inspector Dominic Poblete, chief of operations of the Pangasinan Police Provincial Office (PPPO), who said the 1 percent comprises nine barangays (villages) in San Fabian, Mangatarem, San Carlos City and Dagupan City.

There are 1,364 barangays in 44 towns and four cities in Pangasinan.

Poblete said of the number, 1,259 barangays were considered as drug affected since the start of "Project Double Barrel" implementation by the police on July 1, 2016.

This means 1,250 barangays or 99 percent of the 1,259 drug-affected barangays were already cleared so far, he added.

At least 428 or 9 percent of the total 1,364 barangays of Pangasinan are not affected by illegal drugs.

Of the 48 towns and cities, only Sto. Tomas is drug-unaffected.

Drug-clearing operations are being done continuously in the nine barangays that have yet to be cleared under the Oplan Linis Droga launched by the Pangasinan police to make the whole province drug-free by year-end.

So far, already officially validated by the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) as drug-cleared are the towns of Agno, Anda, Dasol, Laoac, Mabini, Mapandan, Natividad and San Nicolas as well as the city of Alaminos.

Malasiqui was among 33 other towns and one city are deemed drug-cleared by PPPO and recommended for validation by an oversight committee from the PDEA regional office.

All towns that are drug-cleared by the police must all go through PDEA validation first to make sure that none will slip back and become drug-affected again.

The 33 towns and Urdaneta City have complied with all the requirements for drug clearing and for this they have been recommended by the PPPO to the PDEA for official validation, Poblete said.

Poblete remained confident that the target date of end of December this year for the province of Pangasinan to be declared drug-free will be met.

He noted that since the start of Project Double Barrel, the police in Pangasinan have conducted a total of 1,666 anti-illegal drug operations where they arrested 1,780 drug personalities.

In all these operations, the police seized a total of 729.25 grams of methamphetamine hydrochloride or shabu and 663 grams of marijuana.

Poblete said there was no drug laboratory found in Pangasinan.  (PNA)
