Nine passengers were killed while an undetermined number remained missing after a passenger boat, "Roliv IV", capsized some 200 meters off the shore of Sitio Ulpok, Barangay Maliogliog, Bagongon Island of Concepcion town, around 12:00 o’clock Thursday noon.
This was disclosed by Presidential Assistant for Western Visayas Raul Banias, a native of Concepcion town, after he was informed of the incident noontime today.
Assistant Secretary Banias said Bagongon Island is one of the island barangays of Concepcion, located some 12 kilometers away from the town proper.
The passengers went to the town proper morning of the same day since it’s a market day.
Banias said, probably they were not informed about tropical depression Quinta such that they hurried to go home at around noontime.
When pumpboat Roliv IV was about 200 meters away from the shore, one of its outriggers was hit by big waves, causing the pumpboat to capsize.
Those who were killed were identified as Gigi Villaran, Tonya de la Cruz, Juanito Musico, Shiela Olano, Miriam Salundagit, Carmen Padrillan, Aida Libre, Cana Caberoy and Jerson Caberoy. - PNA
