After long years of being powerless and in the dark, electric power has dawned upon the province of Lanao del Sur.
This was the fulfillment after the Lanao del Sur Electric Cooperative (LASURECO) energized the 7.5 MVA Dansalan Substation and completed the new three-phase distribution line.
This will serve the Mindanao State University (MSU), a pilot project of the cooperative, and more importantly it has served the World Ijtima, an annual gathering of Muslims worldwide last July 1-17 held at the “Tent City†in Upper Barangay Marawi, Marawi City.
The World Iztima (Congregation) of the Tableegh was first-of-its-kind occasion in the province.
Edita Bueno, Administrator of National Electrification Administration (NEA) said the electrification not only addressed the power needs of the Maranaos but also its social responsibilities to all Muslims worldwide.
This breakthrough in Mindanao to deliver electricity in the countryside is a major component of President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo's 10-point development program through the National Electrification Administration (NEA).
“We, at the NEA, are glad that Team LASURECO is taking a very proactive stance in rehabilitating the cooperative. This year alone, it has already energized 49 barangays in addition to the 61 electrified in 2008. It has likewise, inaugurated a new headquarters and drawn-up an Integrated Rehabilitation Plan, a three-year program aimed at completing the electrification project of the province. The Team has NEA’s 100% support in this landmark undertaking in order to serve better our Muslim brothersâ€, said Bueno.
Sultan Ashary P. Maongco, General Manager of Lasureco is very grateful to NEA for the agency’s assistance, both monetary and non-monetary.
He also cited the efforts extended by the National Power Corporation (NPC) and the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) in the realization of the project, as part of their corporate social responsibility.
As of December 31, 2008, electrification level in the country was placed at 97.71 percent.
Department of Energy data also indicated that only 962 barangays remain without power supply out of 41,980 barangays in the country.(PNA)
