5 firecracker-related injuries reported in Antique
SAN JOSE De BUENAVISTA, Antique, Jan. 3 (PNA) -- Five firecracker-related injuries were reported in Antique as of Tuesday.
Antique Provincial Health Officer Ric Noel Naciongayo today said that the injuries were monitored during the Christmas and New Year’s Eve celebration. However, they are still expecting hospitals in the province to submit their reports so they could get the exact figure of injuries.
Naciongayo said that health personnel in the province are on White Code alert since December 21, 2016 up to January 5 as per directive from the Department of Health (DOH).
He said that the Iwas Paputok campaign has really raised public awareness on the firework hazards.
He could not remember the number of cases last year but he surmised it’s lower this year because of the continuous campaign.
No less than DOH6 Assistant Regional Director Paz Corrales last December 19, 2016 called for a concerted effort of the Antiqueños to prevent firecracker-related injuries by supporting the Iwas Paputok campaign and adopt a community-based fireworks display.(PNA)
