ILOILO CITY -- Five boys drowned in the coastal Barangay of Bacay, Dumangas, Iloilo on Saturday.
Joint teams of the Coast Guard Sub-Station in Dumangas and the Municipal Police Station responded after receiving a call from a friend of one of the victims, said Lt. Ramil Palabrica, commander of the Philippine Coast Guard in Iloilo.
The responders were able to recover the bodies of the victims and were immediately brought to Ramon D. Duremdes District Hospital in Dumangas but were all declared dead on arrival, Palabrica said in an interview.
He said the “five male minors” were swimming near the shore when big waves hit them.
“All of them do not know how to swim so they were not able to survive,” he said.
Palabrica said investigation is still ongoing. (PNA)
