DUMAGUETE CITY -– The Energy Development Corporation or EDC’s scholarship program is giving 487 junior and senior high school students in Valencia, Negros Oriental an opportunity to pursue their education.

A total of 120 students from Pulangbato National High School, 100 from San Pedro Academy Recoletos, 145 from Balugo National High School, and 122 from Valencia National High School are beneficiaries of the scholarship program, said Norreen Bautista, Head of EDC’s Community Partnerships, External Relations, and Watershed Management Group in Negros Island.

Bautista said Friday the company’s scholarship program reaffirms their commitment to the progress of Valencia, which hosts the geothermal power plants that provide clean, sustainable, and renewable energy 24/7.

"EDC is proud to have our scholarship program that helps 487 poor but deserving high school students in Valencia,” she said.

Bautista said that hard work and determination will help these students become “self-sufficient and independent from outside aid.”

Bautista said the high school scholarship program, now on its 13th year, is “essential to achieving inclusive growth for our partner communities."

The scholarship project is part of the education module under EDC’s Community Partnership.

Just recently, the EDC awarded the scholarship grants for the school year 2017-2018 to the junior and senior high school students in Valencia. (PNA)
