The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) charged 37 policemen in connection with the ambush of a convoy of a vice mayor that resulted in the death of six persons and wounding of seven others in Zamboanga del Sur last August 22.

The 37 policemen were charged with multiple murder, multiple frustrated murder and attempted murder in relation to Articles 6 and 8 of the Revised Penal Code (RPC).
The accused were tagged for the death of Sgt. Paulino Tapang, of 1MB 1st Infantry Division (Tabak) Philippine Army (PA); Kuta Major Cesar L. Sang-an, Labangan, Zamboanga del Sur; Cpl. Jesus Gaudencio Burlat Jr., 1MB 1st Infantry Division, PA, Kuta Major Cesar L. Sang-an, Labangan, Zamboanga del Sur; Citizens Armed Forces Geographical Unit (CAFGU) CAA Thong Abdullah, 51st Infantry Battalion, PA, and resident of Dalapang, Labangan, Zamboanga del Sur; PO1 Michael Jover, member of the 9th Regional Mobile Group, PNP, resident of Tawagan Sur, Pagadian City; Halil Acang, of Dalapang, Labangan, Zamboanga del Sur; and Tinie Buisan, of Balimbingan, Tukuran, Zamboanga del Sur.
Wounded were Cpl. Allan Deguit, of 32nd Infantry Battalion, 1st Tabak Division; Tho Masukat, of Labangan; Jay Minalang, of Brgy. Sto. Nino, Tukuran; Datukan Macmod, of Dalapang, Labangan; Tony Salangani, of Upper Sang-an, Labangan; Duran Alpad, of Brgy. Sto. Nino, Tukuran; and Saidamen Tabayag, of Dalapang, Labangan.
The case stemmed from the complaints lodged by Incumbent Labangan, Zamboanga del Sur Mayor Abubakar A. Afdal, and Labangan Vice Mayor Wilson Nandang.
The ambush occurred in Barangay Sto. Nino, Tukuran, Zamboanga del Sur at 7 p.m. of August 22, 2008. - PNA
