LEGAZPI CITY -- A rally against drug abuse in this city drew 30,000 participants pushing for more aggressive actions against illegal drugs during the observance of the Drug Abuse Awareness and Prevention Week.

Legazpi City Mayor Noel Rosal on Wednesday expressed gratitude for the huge turnout of participants in this year’s anti-drug rally saying it was the biggest so far in the city's history.

He said the rally showed that the constituents are ready to fight and crack down on drug addiction in the community and make the city peaceful and free from illegal drugs.

"We are doing this kind of campaign in order to save the lives of the younger generations and not to destroy their future for being a victim of illegal drug, it would also serve as an information tool to the public and make them more aware of the ill effect of this dangerous substance," Rosal added.

He said his administration has spearheaded community-based rehabilitation to drug victims as one way of giving them an opportunity to bring their lives back to normal.

Rosal urged officers and members of the Barangay Anti-Drug Abuse Council (BADAC) of the 70 villages of the city to implement the curfew ordinance and conduct regular monitoring of activities involving the youth and minors in their respective areas.

Barangay leaders and parents were also called to involve the youth in different sports activities to keep them away from illegal drugs.

The Drug and Prevention and Control Week is an annual activity of the city government. (PNA)  NOVEMBER 2017
