An intensified search and rescue operation for three fishermen who went missing during a fishing expedition in the West Philippine Sea last Sunday morning is now going on.
Ilocos Sur Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (PDRRMC) Action Officer Sigfred Duquing identified the three missing fishermen as Norlie Liclican, 26; Nilo Etrata, 30; and Judel Escalona, 18; all of Barangay Gabao, Santiago, Ilocos Sur.
The three fishermen left their homes at 5:00 a.m. last Sunday on board a motorized boat marked "3K" but they failed to return home till today (Monday).
Upon learning the incident, Duquing immediately coordinated with the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) and the Maritime Group of the Philippine National Police (PNP) for the conduct of search and rescue operation for the three fishermen.
The coast guard is now conducting intensified search and rescue operations in the coastal areas in Ilocos Sur on board a rubber boat while members of the Maritime Group of the police are also conducting boat patrol along the shoreline in Santiago town, Duquing said.
