A messenger from the office of the Jalasig Planters Association in Barangay Poblacion Ilawod, Passi City, Iloilo lost P2.6 million cash to two armed men shortly after he withdrew the amount from a bank branch in that city on Friday.
Police said Reymundo Palomaria had just alighted from the Pajero service vehicle of the association in front of its office located along Sara Road in Passi City when the suspects suddenly appeared, poked guns at him and announced the holdup.
One of the suspects grabbed Palomaria’s knapsack containing the money which was intended for the salaries of the employees of the association.
When Palomaria refused to yield the bag, one the armed men pistol-whipped him in the head and left arm. This forced him to drop the knapsack on the ground.
The suspects immediately picked up the bag and escaped on board a waiting motorcycle towards the adjoining San Enrique town.
Police investigation showed that prior to the incident, Palomaria went to the nearby Land Bank of the Philippines branch on board the Pajero service vehicle driven by accounting clerk Myrna Palma to encash the check intended for the salaries of the employees of the association.
The holdup took place upon Palomaria's return from the bank to the office of the association at about 12:30 p.m.
