19 Foreign Tourists Died in Cebu Bus Accident

At least 19 persons, mostly Iranian nationals, died while dozens of others were injured when a tourist bus plunged into a 30-meter ravine at past 10 a.m. Sunday while negotiating a mountain road in Balamban town.
Dr. Wyben Briones, a member of the Emergency Rescue Unit Foundation (Eruf), who was among those who responded to the incident, told the
Philippines News Agency at least 19 bodies have been retrieved from the crash site in Sitio Buli, Barangay Cansumuroy, Balamban in western Cebu.
Those injured were taken to the Balamban District Hospital.
The crash site is on the midsection of Cebu island, some 11 kilometers from the Balamban town proper.
Initial police reports said among those killed were the
Filipino driver of the black and gray JD Tours bus and a tourist guide.
Police were still determining the identities of the victims.
Cansumuroy Barangay Chairman Emilia Mandocello said residents were the first to reach the crash site.
There are only two houses near the scene, also the site of many accidents in the past, she said.
Many passengers were still pinned in the wreckage of the bus which turned upside down. (PNA)
