TUGUEGARAO CITY -- The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Region 2 director has said that 17 Rain Water Collection Systems (RWCS) in different public schools in Cagayan Province were completed on Wednesday.

Melanio Briosos on Friday said PHP3.2 million were spent to complete the RWCS installations over a period of four months in schools which do not have adequate access to water and sanitation facilities.

Each RWCS system includes one unit reinforced concreted ground storage tank with a capacity of 4,000 liters of water. The water collector can be used in addressing problems of diminishing freshwater supply due to over extraction of groundwater.

Beneficiaries of the projects include Ziman and Paddaya Elementary Schools in Aparri; Bullala Fugu Elementary School in Camalaniugan; Laoc and C. Dela Cruz Elementary Schools, and Sta. Clara National High School in Gonzaga; San Mariano Elementary School and Magapit National High School in Lal-lo.

Water collection systems were also installed at Don Mariano and Calaogan–Capissayan Annex National High Schools, Guising, Dummun, Lapogan, and Calaogan Dakkel Elementary Schools in the municipality of Gattaran; Alcala West Central School in Alcala; and Marus Elementary School in Baggao town, all in Cagayan. (PNA)
