Women played a big role in the proliferation of illegal drugs in the region, revealed the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency 6 (PDEA-6).

Of the 1,389 drug personalities in its watch list, around 150 are women, said Officer-In-Charge Paul Ledesma.

“The cities of Iloilo and Bacolod are where most of these women operate and serve either as pushers, users or runners”, Ledesma said.

He also added other women have direct hand in some drug dens operation.

This year, Ledesma stressed that the present number of women pushers lowered down from 200 based on last year’s record because of their massive campaign against illegal drugs.

“Some of these women pushers already serve as our informants,” he added.

In 2009, the PDEA-6 has identified 23 drug dens across Western Visayas but majority of these were already neutralized. There are now 12 suspected drug dens in the region currently under the tight watch of the PDEA-6. - pna
