MANILA, Philippines -- The family of feisty talent manager Annabelle Rama showed full support for her on Friday, when she filed her certificate of candidacy (COC) for her bid for a seat in Congress in the 2013 midterm elections.
After holding several "barangay dialogues" with her potential constituents last September, Rama on Friday afternoon submitted her COC before the Commission on Elections to formalize her plans to run for Congress under the United Nationalist Alliance (UNA), representing the first district of Cebu.
She was accompanied by her husband, veteran actor Eddie Gutierrez, and their children actress-host Ruffa, actor Richard and TV host Raymond. Also seen with Rama during her filing were Tonton and Ramoncito Gutierrez.
"My mom wants to do this, so we're here to support her all the way. We love how challenged she is, how she loves the Cebuanos, and andito kami para suportahan siya," said Ruffa, who had initially expressed reservations over her mom's political plans.
"Right now, it's all about being positive, it's all about accommodating the people, it's all about supporting my mom. So, no negativity for 2013," she added.
Echoing Ruffa's sentiments, Richard said: "We're here to support her, we know how much she loves Cebu, and she's going to give back to the northern part of Cebu."
Of his mother's bid for Congress, Raymond said: "We're giving 100% support to my mom, that's why we're all here today in Cebu. We love coming back here, and this time it's for a very special purpose, so we're here to give here whatever support she needs."
Rama's long-time partner, Eddie, meanwhile, expressed confidence that his wife will be of service to her potential constituents. "I know she will do good for the northern province of Cebu."
In recent months leading up to the week of COC-filing, Rama took to social networking sites to chronicle her campaign trail by way of holding "barangay consultations."
UNA leader former President Joseph "Erap" Estrada" earlier said he feels Rama is "winnable," pointing to her "love for the poor and the masses."
