BACOLOD CITY -- A total of 106 agrarian reform beneficiaries (ARBs) in Negros Occidental completed the four-month entrepreneurship training under the Farm Business School (FBS) initiated by the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR).

The graduation rites held Friday at the Zaycoland Resort in Kabankalan City was led by Provincial Agrarian Reform Program Officer II Lucrecia Taberna.

Taberna said the FBS is an on-site entrepreneurial training and education on farm technology and agribusiness for farmers.

The training is a DAR program that helps farmers develop their own enterprises and make their business operations profitable.

Those who graduated include 31 ARBs under the General Malvar Agrarian Reform Cooperative and Kauswagan Agrarian Reform Cooperative in Barangay General Malvar, Pontevedra; 35 ARBs from Bagong Silang Farmers Association in Barangay Tuguis, Hinigaran; and 40 ARBs from Manlucahoc Agrarian Reform Cooperative in Barangay Manlucahoc, Sipalay City.

This fulfills the memoranda of agreement between the DAR Negros Occidental-South and the municipalities of Hinigaran and Pontevedra and Sipalay City.

Vilma Credo of Manlucahoc Agrarian Reform Cooperative, who was awarded with highest honors, said that through their FBS training, they are given more opportunities since they are already equipped with entrepreneurial skills, knowledge, and values.

Taberna said the trainees learned how to become entrepreneurs and to manage farms as enterprises.

The four-month FBS, which began last July, comprised 25 sessions, which covered market survey, accounting, farm budget planning, benchmarking, and market forum, and matching, among others.

Taberna assured ARBs of the agency’s continued support through the delivery of various support services to their respective cooperatives and organizations. (PNA)
