The Iloilo Provincial Veterinary Office (PVO) has vaccinated more than 100,000 dogs under its Accelerated Rabies Termination (ART) program.
PVO chief Dr. Silvino Teodosio said they have now vaccinated 105,402 dogs in the province which is equivalent to 40 percent of the estimated 263,505 total dog population.
He said they are nearing their target to vaccinate 184,453 or 70 percent of the dog population.
Teodosio said their accomplishment has been bolstered by the support of the Bill and Melinda Gates (BMG) Foundation that sent again
vaccines to be used.
Likewise, the Iloilo provincial government and municipal governments gave their counterpart for the rabies elimination program.
On Sept. 26, during Iloilo's observance of the World Rabies Day in Leon town, the PVO has slated to hold massive vaccination as well as castration or staying of dogs as one of the activities.
