LOBOC CRUISE. In order to iron out kinks for the operation of the P14 million new Loboc Cruise docking port/terminal, the Provincial Tourism Council chaired by Peter Dejaresco and BM Corazon Galbreath met boat operators, tour operators together with Loboc Mayor Leon Calipusan at the Loboc Tourism Complex last Monday. Rep. Eladio Jala joined the meeting to assure that the bailey bridge reinforcement work will be fast tracked in time for the visit of guests from the ASEAN Summit in Cebu City on Dec 10-14.

The badly needed reinforcement work at the existing bailey bridge that connects to the newly completed Loboc Tourism Complex will commence shortly, according to Rep. Eladio Jala yesterday.

The solon worked double time to follow up the release of the budget for the reinforcement work since tourist buses can not ferry their passengers to the complex where the P12 million docking port is located.

Jala said that the P8-million allotment was hand carried yesterday from the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Manila central offices by OIC District Engr, Ramie Doroy of the Bohol 2nd Engineering.

The solon said that since he wants the bridge to be 100% safe for tourists, he ordered District Engr. Arames Torrefranca of DPWH District III to expedite the work since he wants the bridge ready for use when some delegates from the ASEAN Summit will sample the

famous Loboc River Cruise using the new docking port/terminal, right across the centuries old Loboc Church.
He said that DPWH-3 will compile and write the materials required for the reinforcement on the website starting tomorrow to award the project which has to be done before December 10 or barely two weeks from today

Jala's action came as an offshoot of the request of tourism industry players when he attended the meeting convened by the Provincial Tourism Council (PTC) at the Loboc Tourism complex last Monday.

The meeting presided by PTC chairpersons Peter Dejaresco and Prov'l. Board Member Corazon Galbreath gathered the Loboc floating restaurant operators to thresh out concerns regarding their eventual transfer to the new docking port terminal.

Loboc Mayor Leon Calipusan who hosted the meeting said the operators have agreed that starting on Friday (Dec. 1), tourists will disembark at the new docking port.

However, their embarkation will still be at their respective docking areas.

The next phase of their transfer will be on January 15 when both embarkation and disembarkation will already be at the new docking port.

Then final phase will be the total transfer, which will include their respective kitchens, targeted by April next year.

During the meeting, the problem on congestion during noontime trips was lengthily discussed since an ordinance regulating the number of boats to cruise upstream to Busai Falls has not been implemented.

Mayor Calipusan showed a list of violations monitored daily. However, no sanctions were made to the violators.

PTC Chair Dejaresco asked that said ordinance be strictly imposed before any accident might happen due to the congestion of boats near Busai Falls.

Calipusan vowed to conduct another meeting with the boat operators tomorrow. This time, he will ask the owners to sign an agreement that violation to the "upstream limit" will mean revocation of their permits.

In attendance during the PTC meeting were Nonette Bolo, president of the Bohol Federation of Travel & Tours Operators (BOFETTO), Loboc Kag. Raymund Cal, president of the Loboc Boat Operators, RG Ong, Lito Responte of the PTC together with Prov'l Tourism Officer Baby Balio and Jo Remolador
