LOBOC salabat, instant ginger powder and beverage as well as Tubigon’s Libertad Agrarian Reform Community (ARC) Multi-Purpose Cooperative Story made Boholanos prouder again, this time by getting into the national scopes during the recent 6th Agraryong Trade Fair set up by the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) at the Megatrade Hall 2 of SM Megamall B in Mandaluyong, Manila, June 4-10, 2007.
The indigenous salabat from Loboc packed the award for best in product packaging and beat other locally produced products developed for commercial production to assist farm communities generate more income in DAR assisted communities.
The board of judges evaluating the novelty products at the fair were so impressed not only Loboc Salabat’s innovative and attractive outer design. They were also marveling at the mini packs for just a cupful of serving tucked inside the boxes, said DAR information Officer Ma. Lydia Bantugan.
According to Agrarian Reform Community products marketing and promotions coordinator Joyce Palgan, the attractive packaging could also entice people to buy the otherwise common Filipino beverage now packed for commercial consumption by Quinoguitan community farmer residents.
She also said sales were high and in fact, if orders from some investors were the indicators, the Loboc Salabat could be in the line of Bohol’s next best-sellers.
Moreover, to enlighten several DAR assisted ARCs in managing their own livelihood support to complement land use, the 6th Agraryong Trade Fair also launched a book on outstanding "People's Organizations and their Enterprises".
One such feature, DAR sources said is the outstanding experience of ARC Libertad Tubigon.
The documentation of the Libertad experience is solely focused on the Libertad Multi-Purpose Cooperative Story of Tubigon, Bohol - From Hopelessness to Bouyant Optimism, said Bantugan, who authored the book segment on the Bohol feature.
Bantugan said she hopes the Libertad story could also inspire other ARC beneficiaries to come up with their own initiatives to help them unburden themselves from poverty, which has been stalking upon the Philippine countrysides. (rachiu/PIA)
