Scott Harrison, a former nightclub promoter in New York City, lived a life filled with luxury and excitement but felt a deep sense of emptiness. In 2004, he made a life-changing decision to leave his high-profile career behind and volunteer aboard a hospital ship in Africa. There, he saw firsthand the severe impact of unsafe drinking water on communities, which inspired him to take action. In 2006, he founded charity: water, a nonprofit dedicated to providing clean and safe drinking water to people in developing nations. Over the years, the organization has made remarkable progress. By 2024, it had raised over $796 million, supporting more than 154,000 water projects across 29 countries and transforming the lives of 18.6 million people. By 2025, the total funds raised exceeded $911 million, financing over 184,104 water projects and expanding access to clean water for more than 20.2 million people worldwide.
