Being a senior citizen is more fun in the Philippines.
The Global Age Watch Index revealed that the Philippines ranked 7th among 21 Asian countries as the best country for older people.

It also ranked the country 44th out of the 91 countries worldwide.

Sweden topped the list worldwide while Japan ranked first in Asia.

Among the Asian countries, Israel, China, Sri Lanka, Georgia, Thailand, Philippines, Armenia, Tajikistan, Vietnam got the 2nd to 10th spots respectively.

The index is said to be the first ever tool to measure the quality of life and well-being of older people around the world.

Meanwhile, in celebration of the Elderly Filipino week, senior citizens in the country can enjoy free rides in the LRT and MRT on Saturday.

A senior citizens ID should be presented to avail of the free ride.

The Social Welfare and Development Department meanwhile is set to conduct activities such as an annual walking event and a forum to enhance public awareness on the well-being of the older people.

In the Philippines, ages 60 years old and above are classified as senior citizens and are entitled discounts and freebies.
