Philippine Standard Time (PST) Sought

Senator Antonio “Sonny” F. Trillanes IV is pushing for the establishment of a single and unified time reference in the country under Senate Bill No. 3284 that seeks to set the Philippine Standard Time (PST).

“Currently, government agencies use and maintain different time reference, which has sometimes caused inconvenience, inefficiency and misunderstanding between and among public officials and their clientele,” Trillanes explained.

“Through this bill, all government functions and transactions will be synchronized and coordinated by having a single and unified time reference system… It is expected that all citizens would eventually follow suit and observe the same time reference in order to avail of time-based government services,” he added.

Under SBN 3284, all government agencies are enjoined to follow, maintain, establish, use and display PST in their official time devices.

At the same time, Trillanes wanted to devote every first week of the year as National Time Consciousness Week and mandate all national and local government agencies to conduct information campaign on the value of time and the need to respect the time of others.

“These advocacies are also being put forward to instill in and make public officials and the people in general realize the importance of being on time and respecting the time of others. This way, we are also promoting efficiency and synergy between and among our people and our government agencies,” Trillanes said.
