There are 13 nominees and applicants for the Supreme Court associate justice post vacated by Chief Justice Maria Lourdes P. Aranal Sereno.
Sereno was appointed by President Benigno S. Aquino III as the 24th Chief Justice last Aug. 24.
The Judicial and Bar Council (JBC) closed the process of nomination and application for the vacant post on Monday.
Those who applied for the position of SC associate justice were Court of Appeals Presiding Justice Andres Reyes Jr., Associate Justice Ramon Bato, and Securities and Exchange Commission Chairperson Teresita Herbosa.
Nominated were CA Associate Justices Noel Tijam, Magdangal De Leon and Isaias Dicdican; Government of the Republic of the Philippines-Moro Islamic Liberation Front (GRP-MILF) Peace Panel Chair Marvic Leonen; former Ateneo De Manila University (ADMU) College of Law Dean Cesar Villanueva; National Labor Relations Commission (NLRC) Presiding Commissioner Joseph Gerald Mabilog; former Department of Energy (DOE) Secretary Raphael Lotilla; De La Salle University (DLSU) College of Law Dean Jose Manuel Diokno; Atty. Adoracion Avisado; and SC Chief Attorney Edna Dino.
Of the 10 nominees, only Tijam, De Leon, Dicdican, Villanueva, Diokno and Avisado have so far confirmed their nomination.
On the other hand, Dino has declined the nomination.
