Manila Zoo, the first and oldest zoo in Asia and one of the famous existing landmarks of the city, will mark its golden anniversary on Saturday, July 25.
The city’s zoo, established in 1959, is managed by the Public Recreation’s Bureau (PRB) under Director Deogracias Manimbo, an engineer.
Mayor Alfredo S. Lim and Manimbo announced that Manilans will enjoy free entrance to the Manila Zoo as part of the 50th anniversary celebration.
Manimbo has organized a thanksgiving mass in the morning, to be attended by Mayor Lim, the department heads, PRB employees, and other invited guests.
After the mass, the new Manila Zoo comfort rooms will be inaugurated and blessed, followed by a bird show and the release of fingerlings.
During the celebration, the PRB will showcase City of Manila's vision: "Manila aims to maintain its prestige and preeminence as the premier city of the Republic of the Philippines and the country's center of trade, culture, history, and education."
As the capital of the country, Manila is committed to develop a socially just, environmentally sustainable, politically participatory and economically vibrant community, Manimbo said. (PNA)
