---ooo---

"The Province of Cebu, as the most densely populated island in the country and Cebu City, as the second most significant urban center in the Philippines has successfully promoted the region as a tourist destination where one can mix business with pleasure.

The dark side, unfortunately, is that Cebu is considered as one of the top five areas for child prostitution and sex tourism. Cebu City has become the destination point of internal and domestic trafficking of children as young as 11 to 17 years old coming from Samar, Bohol, Leyte, Negros and Bacolod." ---by Delia Jurado, February 16, 2005

---ooo---

"Anti-Indecency Board chairman Rene Josef Bullecer pointed out there is no such thing as sex trade in the city. He said there are lewd shows during nighttime, 80 percent are happening at the Mactan area.

Also, Bullecer told reporters earlier that he has doubts on the probity of the data released by non-governmental organizations that composed Catch- Wise as the study is funded by a member of the European Commission." ---Freeman, February 12, 2005

The Good – Income
I never encountered any rude guests here. I am even amused at all of them. In a nice way.
We can't generalize their race just because we met 100 200 300 of them..
Or maybe it depends on the person’s outlook or personality. I have this outlook (from a novel) Nobody can make me feel inferior without my consent.  That's why I've no bad stuff to say about our tourists here nor do I feel that I am being looked down at. Unless, it's a personal / physical attack.  Kana!

And yes, I never witnessed nor experience, Americans, British, and Australians, cutting lines. Koreanas nuon! But I laugh it off.. Lahi rajud cla..

In fact, I pity the tourists - and the obvious balikbayans because SOME locals take advantage. Everything is more expensive for them. I mean, can't they just be a guest for once? Like pay the same price we locals pay.. I know. Impossible! But think about it, Filipinos in their country is being treated and billed the same.  If you say Filipinos are discriminated there, ha! We too, discriminate tourists here. =)

CEBU CITY, Philippines -- Authorities have banned diving down a popular falls in Badian town following the death of a Korean national on Good Friday.

Ryu Ho-jun, a 25-year-old Korean student who weighed 90 kilograms, dived down the Kawasan Falls in Badian, destroying the bamboo raft ridden by Korean students Lim Sang Guen, 24, Jeon Chang Seon, 22, and Chon Jeung A, 23,.

Kawasan Falls, over 100 kilometers south of this city, is a popular destination in southern Cebu for locals and foreigners, especially during summer.

Lim died a few minutes after he was brought to the Reinhard Wertgen Memorial Hospital in nearby town Alegria while his two classmates were transferred to the Chong Hua hospital in Cebu City.

Ryu, who was also injured, was brought to Cebu Doctors Hospital in Cebu City.

Kiams,

Is Cebu like a popular 'spring break' destination for Korean students?

So I hear.

I've heard Koreans study English in South Africa, New Zealand, Canada, the US and the UK.

So the Koreans that are in Cebu; do they speak Tagalog? Bisaya? Any of them engage in the local lingua franca?

annoying part lorz is that they are "krungkrung" it's a linggo for like tanga-tanga..  take for example, they keep on talking with their group while crossing the streets,  (i was a victim of this hapit ko kabangga!) , they cross the street without looking while reading street signs, that's is why there are alot of cases wherein taxi drivers run over their feet.. (funny no?) especially in sm.. ewan. ila feet manglapas jud sa line! some are too loud, in discos some are too funny when drunk especially when they dance,..it's like a robot dancing.. all of them!! i never saw a graceful korean yet..

one time, my friend got hit by a drunk korean he was really fast. good thing he hit on the parked car instead. instead of my friend.. tas backing cya, continued driving, then hit 2 more cars ahead.. the show was like a carnival bump cars!! lol.. good thing my friend was spared, the car that got hit near her can't be fixed na.. it was too wrecked.

Good thing your friend was fine, Kiams. Salamat sa Dios wa siya gi igo sa adtong koreano. Bitaw, one thing about foreigners is that they need to respect the local customs, because this is the Philippines not their Korea.

I have some Korean friends here, and I tend not to hang out with them as much because whenever we hang out they drink excessively. And they are very violent people. I had one who hit my back when he was drunk,  I had to keep him pinned down (he was cursing and going violent while i kept him down). The next morning, he woke up and didn't even remember what he did. All the while, I had to restrain myself form punching the guy, lol

Kiams,

Is Cebu like a popular 'spring break' destination for Korean students?

Pare as observed in my latest Bohol vacation... the Koreans invaded Panglao island.  I think they have lot of coins coz they mostly stayed in that expensive BBC with left and right "burikats" (business as usual).
Well, it is really nice to have lot of tourists (where we are proud of) but....ang mga fishermen are waiting to sale their "PASAYAN"
to the good payer Koreans as what the tindera told me (450-500 Pesos per kilo). The Pinoys "bolinao" na lay maabot ug palit.
