Filipinos Are All Over the World
« on: April 13, 2009, 01:32:08 AM »
By Miko L. Morelos
Philippine Daily Inquirer

There is a Filipino in every country in the world.

This fact, often treated as a joke, has actually been established by the Philippine Migration and Development Statistical Almanac of the Institute of Migration and Development Issues (IMDI).

“There are 239 countries identified to have Filipinos,” said IMDI executive director Jeremaiah Opiniano, writing in the foreword to the report.

Of this total, 209 are members of the United Nations, while 30 are non-members, including islands and territories unfamiliar to many Filipinos.

“Filipinos go to these countries as temporary migrants, permanent migrants and undocumented or irregular migrants,” the report said.

The almanac was published last year by the IMDI, a non-government organization concerned with migration issues, to document the total number of Filipinos who have gone overseas, whether they left temporarily or permanently, and with or without proper documents.

According to Opiniano, the almanac used data from administrative sources, surveys and selected quantitative studies

John 3:16-18 ESV
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son (Jesus Christ), that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.

In the United States alone, there are about 2.5 Million Filipino-Americans.

We form the 2nd largest Asian minority. Behind the Chinese.

In an article published by ADVANCE NURSES, Filipinos form a SUBSTANTIAL backbone in the American Medical Workforce.

Filipino Nurses are charge nurses, OR nurses, Anesthetist Nurses, ICU Nurses, CCU nurses, PCU nurses, ER Nurses, Nursing Home Nurses, Hospice Care Nurses etc~

There are about 20,000 Filipino and Filipino-American Physician-Surgeons.

;)

GOD BLESS THE FILIPINO!

The top migrant destinations were the Middle East and Asia for overseas Filipino workers, classified as temporary migrants, and North America for permanent migrants.

The Philippines-Saudi Arabia corridor is the biggest migration corridor for temporary migrants, while the Philippines-United States migration corridor is the biggest for permanent migrants

In a conversation I had with my dad and some of his compadres (who are also civil engineers, mechanical engineers, electrical engineers), the Filipino is paid less in Saudi, but his workshmanship and feasability far more superior to that of the Jordanian, Indian or Sri Lankan contemporaries.

Even if they are paid less, the Filipino still does his job, according to specs and even more.

My dad was a site supervisor for large construction firm in Riyadh, and when he had a quota or project, it was delivered in time and before schedule. He presided over Thai, Sri Lankan, Indian and Filipino construction workers. ensync ang workers to orders that were given by my father and other Engineers.

When it comes to work, it is above par. That is why I have alot of respect for Filipino Engineers and Construction workers.

Aduy,

I really have so much respect for you guys over there, sir. I remember my dad could only come back to Pinas once a year when he was over there in Saudi.

He worked so much to provide a good house, food for the table, and send us to school.

Now that we are here in the 'states, my father who is a trained Civil Engineer--a product of Cebu Institute of Technology, is now an OR Nurse over here in the 'states. :)

Can you imagine? A Professional Engineer, who went back to nursing school in the 'states to become an RN? :)

That to me, is the epitome of a Filipino. Where ever you put a Filipino (be he an Engineer, A Nurse, A Physician, Teacher etc), he will prosper. It is a product of the successful educational system in the Philippines. Teaches hard work, and hard work!

MABUHAY ANG PINOY!

These are the popular college majors of Filipino-American college students:

1) Pre-Medicine and Medicine
2) Political Science and Law
3) Nursing and Allied Science
4) Engineering Science: Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, Biomedical

Very math-science oriented ang mga Filipino-American youth diri sa USA.

It is a result of the hard work and sacrifice that our parents instill in us.
In my medical school alone, there are 4 Filipinos in my batch.

All 4 of us have fathers that are Engineers and our mothers are Nurses.

:)

LOVE IT!

Perhaps they changed it , Aduy. My left Saudi in 1991 and left with my mom and us to the 'states in 1991.

I am sure major changes in pay and overseeing worker rights took place in the last 18 years.

haha, na lingaw ko ani.

You know, whenever I'm home back in New Jersey, I always happen to go with my mom to the local Filipino store, and actually we have Filipino stores all over the place.

When I go to a Filipino store, immediately I will see a huge TV with TFC playing or GMA. The show that always attracts the attention of Fil-Ams and Fil-Am youth is "Wowowee" lol!

And definitely, there is always a box in the store "BALIKBAYAN BOX". etc. I think almost every single Fil-AM family sends a box home back to the Philippines once a month.

Imagine, how many boxes are sent back home? Just from the USA alone?

Tinuud jud, you can take the Filipino away from his country, but you can never take the Filipino from the Man.

katawa ko kai na lipay ko aning thread. :)

Last christmas break, I went to a Fiesta for the Blessed Santo Nino, and there I talked with some of my fellow Filipino-American friends, of course we separated ourselves from the loud and busy kitchen-family room area where our parents were talking and eating and dancing. LOL!

Its amazing for me, because wherever we Filipinos, either we be in California, Nevada, Utah, New York, New Jersey, Florida, Georgia, Alabama, Alaska even, Hawaii etc, whenever we go to a Filipino Party--there will always have this:

1) Karaoke or MagicMIke
2) Inasal/ Lechon
3) Diniguan and puto
4) Pancit Bihon/canton
5) Pang kare kare
6) People doing the CHA-CHA!

hahahaha, i think all the parties ive been, my titas and titos always try to somehow make me karaoke a Pinoy song with a girl.

Oh i also forgot, there is always a song called 'Baleleng' being sung too. LOL!

My tito Simon loves that song, and Tito Bern, and Tito Jan too. hahaha!

Ug mo adto mi sa Filipino party----so very bibo bibo kaayo. I can feel the spirit. The dancing, the reverie.

Filipinos are honorable people, and remain close to friends from all over the place.
Last year, we held a fiesta for the Blessed Santo Nino at our place, and some of my dad's Engineering Compadres from Saudi were there.

It was a great time. Friendship and camaraderie knows no distance. :)

Engr. Rico Lucino. (my dad) and some of his compandres and colleagues; all of whom are also Engineers.

Mga friends sa pamilya

The Blessed Santo Nino!
Viva El Senor Santo Nino!    :)
