Using "Mrs" for a Married Woman in the Philippines is Wrong
« on: September 16, 2010, 06:10:44 AM »
Proper Surnames for a Married Woman in the Philippines

Example: Josefa Reyes married Renato Cruz. Josefa may use any of the following names:

a. Josefa Reyes Cruz
b. Josefa Cruz
c. Mrs. Renato Cruz

Note: She cannot use Mrs. Josefa Cruz for this would be illegal and ungrammatical, the term "Mrs." being the abbreviation of "Mistress." While she is the mistress of Renato, she is NOT the mistress of Josefa. However, if she wants to, she may still use Mrs. Josefa Cruz provided that "Mrs." is enclosed in parenthesis. She would then be using the form in Article 370 (No. 2) of the Civil Code of the Philippines and the term "Mrs." which should be enclosed would be merely descriptive of her marital status.

John 3:16-18 ESV
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son (Jesus Christ), that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.
