Ombudsman holds 1st Public Governance Forum
30 August 2013, Press Release Ombudsman

The Office of the Ombudsman conducted the 1st Public Governance Forum (Forum) on August 30, 2013 at the Asian Development Bank (ADB) Auditorium in Ortigas Center, Mandaluyong City.

As a public dialogue among multi-sectoral leaders and champions of good governance representing various stakeholders in the crusade against corruption, the Forum provided an avenue for insights on strategic policy reforms, integrity-building initiatives and best practices.

In her keynote address, Ombudsman Conchita Carpio Morales stated that the first of two fora “focuses on mutual cooperation and collaboration between the government and the business sector in building an investment climate that is premised on intensified governance standards.”

Ombudsman Morales also highlighted the progress in case disposition and the corruption prevention programs supported by development partners.

National Competitiveness Council (NCC) Co-Chairman Guillermo Luz [representing the private sector], Rappler Editor-at-Large Marites Danguilan Vitug [media], Philippine Institute of Certified Public Accountants (PICPA) Performance Governance System Committee Co-Chair Normita Villaruz [fiduciary], Maximum Solutions President and Managing Director Nelly Coralde [business sector, particularly the small and medium enterprises or SMEs] served as panelists during the Forum which was moderated by Prof. Solita Monsod of the UP School of Economics.

With support coming from the ADB and the United Nations Development Programme, the Forum is part of a series of activities under the year-long “Ombudsman Integrity Caravan” (Caravan) on the occasion of the Office’s 25th Anniversary in May this year.

The Caravan is a social communication strategy that aims to engage, on a nationwide scale, the public and private sectors in the various Ombudsman programs to further build a broad-based strategic partnership of all anti-corruption stakeholders.

Director Dennis Russell Baldago of the Office’s Project Management Bureau stated that “the Integrity Caravan consists of activities that target institutions with strategic positions in society that can steer transformation of beliefs, values and attitudes on governance issues, particularly against corruption.”

Aside from the Public Governance Forum, other activities in store are Integrity Lecture Series, University Integrity Tours, Integrity Development Contest, and Barangay Integrity Fora.

John 3:16-18 ESV
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son (Jesus Christ), that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.
