Hundreds of Filipinos are employed by the world famous super liner RMS Queen Mary 2 that recently graced Sydney shores earlier this month as part of its world cruise.
Food and beverage supervisor Roy Mahinang said there are about 650 Filipino crew members assigned to different departments on board the cruise ship.
"My duties are to make all the guests happy and the crew members as well - just to make sure everything is going well,†said Mahinang.
The 650 Pinoys make up almost 80 percent of the Queen Mary 2's operational staff, recruited through Magsaysay Careers and Singha Ship Management Philippines. They are involved in most departments from baggage handling, food preparation, general customer service, and security and engine room operations.
"We have a manning agency in the Philippines so you have to apply there. You may have to wait for six months. You have to graduate hotel and restaurant management or have worked in a hotel or another ship before you can apply on the Queen Mary," said bedroom steward Greg Magahis. - ABS-CBN
