Like me, I graduated as a Civil Engineering, but my present profession is related to Commerce and Trade. A misfit in profession.

However, this gives me the edge over my competition, as Math in Engineering is far superior than any commerce or accounting degree.

i beg to disagree. Math in Engineering is only math. Math in accounting is with deep analysis. unless you are an accounting graduate, you cannot tell the complexities of the course.

Maybe one of the reasons why Board Exam passers percentage for CPAs is always lower than Engineering subjects.

Yes, I agree with you Ivy. Accounting is mainly in analysis and the first time I encountered such complexities, it is headbreaking.

It is actually numbers without formulas. It is like a tangled thread where you have to figure out both ends. The worst thing is that there is a given time. You have to be mentally fast.

However, applying math desciplines in accounting would help to simplyfy the complexities. Like for example, I've seen most of our accountants are using the long method of calculation while there are simplier ones.

I have an answer for that. Basically, you really need to use the long process for you to answer questions fall in between. Every additions and every subtractions is important because in the end, you might regret not solving it the "long" cut.

There are only minimal transactions for which math logic can be used. maybe bonds & investments... however, you cannot use it on more complicated accounting transactions.

by the way, please dont be misled. I am more of a math-lover than an accounting wizard. :-) people who knows me would say i'm better off an engineer than a cpa. i should have been an engineering stude but i cannot afford all the things you guys need for drawing etc.... so when i was in college, my course really put me into the apec of boredom. however, when i ventured in the world of reality, later did i realize that i've chosen the best for me.

Thanks Insurectus,

That line is the ten commandments of Engineering. It is found written at UB old Engineering Building in front of high school building before it was demolished.

In fairness to Ivyliz, nakabasa pod ko nga Accountants are the masters of survival. That is "Financial Literacy". Many may consider themselves highly educated, but are financially unsuccessful and maybe burried in debts / loans. Financial Literacy are the key to financial survival in real life and accountants are masters of this discipline.

Ivyliz, you have choosen the right course. Many of our female schoolmates just ended up as housewives, some shifted to nursing.

Infact I shared some part of that book in TB forum last year. This is the link: http://tubagbohol.mikeligalig.com/index.php?topic=2583.0
