As we celebrate the Feast of San Miguel, Jagna expatriates are also observing their fiesta in Manila. All Jagnaanons of the Greater Metro Manila Area gather to observe an ancient tradition, celebrating the Feat of St Michael. Usually, the event is observed on the Sunday nearest September 29. Since this day of this year falls on Saturday, all Jagnaanons agreed to hold the affair on time.

The Pondok Jagnaanon of Greater Metro Manila is an old organization. It was formed by first generation Jagnaanon expats, some residing in GMMA before the Great War. They were few then. They observed the nine-night novena and celebrate fiesta. Mass was celebrated by priest such as Padre Apro and Padre Saro, who were holding parishes in or near Metro Manila. The mass was celebrated in a Sta Mesa Church the one near the Stop and Shop supermarket. The feast was held in the Aroma Café - or was it Restaurant - n Sta Cruz.

The Pundok Jagnaanon grew in numbers, with new urban migrants joining. This time under the dynamic leadership of prominent Jagnaanons, the group became more organized. One of their notable activities is the aid for those destitute citizens who died and wanted o be shipped home for burial. Of course, they would like to like to pay respects to some prominent members who had passed away but sometimes, there are families who would like to keep their sorrow to themselves like the case of the case of the late Gabino M. Rañoa Sr. At any rate, they had remembered him by missing him this celebration.

This year the nine-night novena was held in the Sta Rita College. The mass will be celebrated in the Aberdeen Court in Quezon City. Festivities will follow at the same place after the mass. The officiating priests will be Fathers Jorge Peligro and Inting Cadeliña. The Pundok Jagnaanon officials for this year are Atty Fortunato Bicbi Abrenilla, Paris Macarayan, Claudio Quimod, Arsenio Salazar, Rammil Ranara, Eufronio Caga, Cindy and Dorothy Castillo, Willy Bagsarasz Edwardo Galve and Fermin Murillo. The men will be probably accompanied by their wives and the women by their husbands. Way compyansa. Let us not mention their families; they are there of course. We have enough of that. The "and family" litany is always recited after every Sunday mass here.

One of the features of their celebration is the presentation of the oldest Jagnaanon expat. This chap, we assume he is a male since they live longer than their female counterpart - has been living in Manila since the Spanish revolution. If he will return to Jagna, he will be considered an alien. The newer generation local Jagnaanon will never recognize him.

Most second generation Jagnaanons, particularly those with one non Jagnaanon parent no longer considers himself a member of the Pundok. His loyalty may be elsewhere. He has no longer memories of Jagna. Since it is this way the Pundok is duty bound to keep the memories of home alive. Like a parent, the Pundok is charged not only to give wings to members but also roots.

One of the most precious gifts in life is roots. When discouraged and down hearted in our never ending struggle to exist, there is always a place where one could return to renew his strength so he can once more face life's problems. Hence, if a Jagnaanon cannot return to Jagna, he still has the Pundok to give him Jagna even in the crowded cities of the Greater Manila area.
