As Organic Vegetable Production (OVP) program produces the second batch of farmer-graduates, the municipal government held another vegetable harvest festival on October 9, this time, in barangay Odiong.
Odiong Barangay Captain, who is an outstanding farmer awardee herself, Margarita Abcede led the 15 graduates of OVP as she challenged her fellow-pioneers to continue what has been started and to start spreading the news for replication to other farmers in the community.
Mayor Exuperio Lloren, as assisted by the Provincial Coordinator of High Valued Commercial Crop (HVCC) Sergio Cuaco, personally gave the certificates of completion to 15 farmer-graduates from barangay Odiong who compose the second league of pioneers on OVP program.
The farmers completed the 12-week training on OVP.
It was barely a month ago that farmer-graduates barangay Mayana finished the training season and held a harvest festival.
The farmers were trained on the latest organic agriculture technology which they can apply in their respective farms.
"Your work is very commendable being the second barangay of the eight pilot areas of OVP in the municipality which has successfully produced a good organic yield. Congratulations for a job worth emulating," Mayor Lloren said.
The mayor also explained that through organic agriculture, the farmers will be relieved of costly farm inputs by doing away with chemical fertilizers, and that the advocacy for good health and sustainable environment will be in place.
