A Jagnaanon who earned his pile in Manila is seeking the mayoralty post of his hometown which is being contested by at least two other candidates.
Joseph Ranola whose initials JR stands for Jagna Renaissance will carry the banner of the Liberal Party in wrestling the mayoralty crown from graduating incumbent Exuperio Llloren.
Ranola’s Jagna Renaissance will introduce political reforms in the town as an alternative to patronage politics.
Although Ranola is a popular choice among many Jagnaanons considering his impressive credentials as a rags-to-riches boy, he will contend with equally bankable opponents. Ranola’s opponents are lawyer Bicbic Abrenilla and international mariner Paris Macarayan.
Believed to be all moneyed, the three candidates will slug it out in a do-or-die finish where at this point no one can claim who is in the upper hand.
The support of Mayor Llloren is also one big factor the protagonists will have to consider in the run-up to the 2010 mayoralty polls.
As of last report, Mayor Llloren was quoted as saying that he was in favor of supporting Abrenilla, a retired executive of the National Economic Development Authority (NEDA).
The incumbent mayor will run as Abrenilla’s vice mayor.
As for his running mate, the Manila-based businessman who used to work with Sen. Rodulfo Biazon as a budget assistant chose Yolanda Tadena Ariles.
The rest of their line-up for municipal councilor are Dodong Albino, Al Alvaro, Dr. Cecil Carol Cero, Loloy Cuarto, Pepe Espiritu, Daisy Galagala, Eddie Llido and Jun Sumalinog. - Sunday Post
