The Integrated Technology System and Support Amenities for Food Enterprises (ITS SAFE) center of the Bohol Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI) conducted a training on basic food handling, hygiene and good manufacturing practices on May 25-26 at the Capt. Goyo Caseas Hall as facilitated by Bohol Food Safety (BFS) team.
To give rise to the industry of local food stuff commodities and help promote a highly hygienic dietary product of the town that will also augment the producers earnings, the Local Government Unit (LGU), through Mayor Exuperio Lloren, requested the Bohol Chamber of Commerce and Industry BCCI to hold the skills development training in Jagna.
Some non-government organizations (NGOs), particularly the Jagna Council of Women (JCW), helped facilitate the seminar.
The DTI-sponsored training was divided into two separate sets of different subject areas. The first batch was on March 25-26 participated by the barangay Canjulao tableya (chocolate) and ubi ((yam) powder and other ubi-based product processors with 38 learners headed by Belinda Castroverde.
The set that has just completed this week was on the processing of mais (corn) coffee with seven participants from barangay Cantagay, on the coconut virgin oil included seven serious adherents from barangay Kingbaan and on the nata de coco attended only by two from barangay Cabungaan.
The group of facilitators, resource persons and support staff came from the Rural Health Unit (RHU) and the local office of the Department of Agriculture (DA).
Necie Torrejos of the Provincial Veterinarian’s Office together, with Regucivilla Pobar- -an instructor of the Central Visayas State College of Agriculture, Forestry and Technology (CVSCAFT)-Tagbilaran City, headed the think tank team.
The sessions included the expectation setting and training overview, topic discussion, activity portion, open forum, evaluation and finally the distribution of certificates that clinched the last part.
