First Jagnaanon top notcher for physicians passes away; 88

By Gregorio Tavera

After serving for more than half a century in the lofty profession as physician surgeon, Dr. Bonifacio Lloren Salas, Jr. died at the Ramiro Hospital in Tagbilaran City on February 5 due to old age. He was 88.

It may be recalled that the  medical practitioner had stayed in the United States from 1955 and has just returned home a few years ago.

The late physician had just celebrated his 88th birthday on January 18. He is survived by his wife and by his only son Bonifacio Salas III.

Doc Bony as he was fondly called by bosom friends and relatives was a U.S. pensioner being a physician-surgeon with the rank of colonel at the Medical Corps in the U.S. Army.

He also served at the 143rd Evaluation Hospital, California Army National Guard. He was Chief Director Grade of the Department of Veterans Affairs; Supervisor of the Veterans Administration for Prisoners of War Program and later Chief Reviewing Medical Officer of the Department of State, Foreign Service and Peace Corps until his retirement.

Among Doc Bony’s siblings included retired rural health officer of Jagna Mariano, Eufronio a civil engineer, Arturo an architect, Lourdes another physician and the youngest Marietta, a retired chief nurse of Teodoro B. Galagar District Hospital. The late appellate court justice Bernardo Salas completed Doc Bony’s family of successful professionals.

The late Kaliwat Jagnaanon Awardee graduated his medical course at the University of Sto. Tomas in 1951 and passed the medical board examinations as 2nd placer in the same year.

Dr. Salas’ was buried on February 10 at the Salas mausoleum at the Pangas Roman Catholic Cemetery. (Gregorio A. Tavera)

John 3:16-18 ESV
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son (Jesus Christ), that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.
