Canadian Bishop in Jagna Bohol
« on: September 28, 2010, 04:51:13 PM »
Considered as a rare privilege to the delight of the Jagnaanon faithful, the bishop of the Diocese of Grand Falls, Newfoundland in Canada, the Most Reverend Martin Currie, made a brief visit at St. Michael the Archangel Parish of Jagna last Jan. 23.

Jagna's parish priest and the newly appointed Episcopal Vicar and chairman of the on-going Formation of Talibon Clergy, Monsignor Orencio Jubac, E.V. led the faithful community of Jagna in welcoming the visiting bishop who officiated the early Sunday Holy Mass as well as High Mass.

In his monition at the 6:00 o'clock Holy Mass aired live over Radyo Natin FM Station, the 52 year-old hockey and golf enthusiast bishop, indicated that his visit in Jagna and to the bishop of Talibon the following day, is part of his sacred mission to look for more priests who are willing to work in his own diocese in Newfoundland, Canada.

"I need more priests in my diocese because the harvest is great but the laborers are few", Bishop Currie informed as he urged the faithful people to pray for more vocation.

In his homily, he invited the congregation to recall the day of their individual baptism.

"Pope John XXIII considered the day of his baptism as the mot important day of his life becaue he rightfully became a child of God, a follower of Christ," the Bishop explained.

Before the final blessing, Msgr. Jubac likewise informed the congregation that the Diocese of Grand Falls has the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception as the seat of the Episcopate.

Presently, the said diocese is composed of thirty parishes, only nineteen of which have resident Pastors while the remaining eleven are without resident pastors amidst its Catholic population of 35,000.

Being the 8th bishop whose motto is ‘Dominus Sperantium Fortutudo" (…those who hope in the Lord will have their strength renewed…. Isaiah 40:31) , He will lead the faithful of Grand Falls as they celebrate their 105th anniversary in 2006.

To date, the Diocese of Talibon has allegedly sent one priest on loan to Grand Falls in the person of Rev. Fr. Deodoro "Along" Caga, the former parish priest of La Hacienda and a native of Candijay, Bohol.

John 3:16-18 ESV
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son (Jesus Christ), that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.
