WHO AM I?
« on: August 15, 2007, 11:59:05 PM »

People are not used to self-assessment / self-evaluation.  It is getting to know yourself, your deepest core of a person, your strengths and weaknesses that will empower you to achieve happiness in everything you do.

Make us aware of who we are in this forum....

as a teacher, i was strict.i really meant what i said.but my students could always count on me to share their problems, and that made me approachable and friendly.up to now, they are still sharing to me their stories.

as a good friend, i won't be reluctant to tell you things when you're wrong.

as a wife and mother, i'm still trying my best to be good if not the best.

as a daughter, i'm not as generous as my elder sis because i don't have much to give also.

as a person in general, i'm jocose. i really love to joke and laugh. ;D ;D ;D

As a son, I'm very sensitive to the remarks of my father--who I've been compared to as a 'carbon copy' time and time again--by my own mother, sister, brothers, uncles, even friends. I am loyal to my parents--though I dont show excessive emotion--as I've been brought up to maintain a sense of Machismo.

As a brother, I am liberal towards my  younger brothers--and protect them to the best of my ability--and help them either it be driving them to karate class, driving them to their friend's house to hang out, taking them to the Mall--and just 'hanging out'. To my sister--I am a conservative 'Kuya'--though I support her in most of her issues--i try to disaude her from dating and focus on studies and academic priorities. I feel as if I am a second father to my y ounger siblings--and my duty to guide them, protect them, and correct them when my parents are working.

As a student, I'm a lover of biological science and an avid researcher, and yet have a secret passion for History and social sciences/humanities. The health of society--particularly gastroenterology and internal medicine is an area whic I have a strong calling to.

As a friend, I am very picky on who I choose to hang around. But loyal to those who I associate myself with.

In general, I am independent and outspoken but sensitive. I'm the kind of person who sees things objectively, there aren't many things I dislike in the world, when I do I try to understand. I can be moody sometimes where I can go from serious to playful. I'm also a worrier...

As a daughter, I am generous though I don't really spoil my parents.

As a sibling, I am fair and very protective.

As a friend, I am thoughtful and sincere but I can be choosy and don't trust easily. Some people misjudged me as "the maldita" , it's because of the way I stare...but trust me, once you get to know me...our world of friendship will rock!  ;D

Dont be too strict, jun. Are you the conservative type? lol

Thanks man..i do try to be a good and responsible kuya when im back home with the family. Its pretty wierd because there is such a large age gap between myself and my younger siblings. First i'm 22 y/o and my sister is 20, my younger brother is 14 and my baby brother is 8 y/o. Sometimes--i feel like a father-figure to my younger brothers. And I do admit--that i treat them as if they were my own children. I can only hope and pray, through the grace of God, that I will have children as well behaved and caring as my younger brothers.

Jun, mi amigo, how do you like being an only child?

ashton,
am sure you know kong kinsa ka or unsang kinaiya nga naa ka; kay kahibalo man ka sa imong gipamuhat.  maybe you have your own individuality which is different from the accepted norms, but am sure you have a heart who understands and knows how to accept mistakes. in every person, we have the bad and good sides... and if you dont know yet yourself, spend time for self-assessment.

onic,

my being organized who is keen in every details has been misunderstood for being strict; in every undertaking, I emphasized adherence and/or compliance to set standards and its operating procedures.  i don't sacrifice quality for mediocrisity.

sticking to what you believe is right regardless of the consequences will keep your integrity / credibility intact.

Thanks, Onic! That's why we need to assess from time to be able to understand ourselves better. I still have a lot of negative traits but I will try my best to correct it.

ginger,

you may agree with me that learning is a continuous process.... as we move forward, backward, sideways, every step is a new begining ...

in every step, it takes sheer courage and determination; but how would you get across to explore the unknown and learn somethig that will add value to what you have in mind?

it's a normal thing to feel that's why we have this inner strength to lift and push us forward in times of  doubt. after all, we know that life is worth living and our belief will help create the fact.

Reading your post made me smile, Jun, as I too am very much like that. I have been told by my Biology professors that whenever I'm set on a particular research technique or preparing a sample for electrophoresis or titration, its a personal priority until finished. You being in the finance field, I totally understand that projects and schedules be finished on time and within the particular specs; imperative. I will admit that I've clashed heads with other student researchers due to their inadequacy, in my personal view, in doing something--while assisting me--and I tend to be very blunt/direct. If I have a problem about someone's titration techniques or their speed in preparing microscope slides etc--I will tell them.

I guess thats one of my weaknesses--is that I tend to be overbearing with co-workers if they mess up or take too much time on something. I've been told by my mom and my gf to 'relax it a bit'. I'll have to work on that..IMO.

Jun, I salute you for your work ethic and your dedication to what you do. Cheers, mi amigo.  8)

sharing is discovering, and it is sharing that we are learning.  experiences do not necessarily come from ourselves but from others and it takes others to be the key in learning oneself...

bitaw no, ang mga puti di kamao mangagda! ug wa ta maanad, maka pungot..hahaha labi na gutom!

Thats not always true, Ginger, I mean there are some white Americans who are like that--but the ones who are exposed to your culture and endorsed in it--and generally respect your customs--will show respect. Take into example my friends who know me and have been to my house during birthday parties or just for Filipino gatherings--they know the 'mano po' system etc--as they have been explained about it by myself and from relatives.

I also have an uncle who is Irish-American and he married my auntie and have a child together--I'll tell you that my uncle though he is 'puti' is very Filipino. He's closer to our side of the family than his own--and he even knows how to speak limited visaya--though he understands it almost perfectly.

There are Americans who are religious and show christian ethic and morality--then there are Americans who are very liberal minded and don't really take into consideration of christian ethic--it really depends on the individual. Hope that helps, beb.

?me sings a song from FAME, the musical:

OUT HERE ON MY OWN by Irene Cara

Sometimes I wonder where I've been
Who I am
Do I fit in.
Make believin' is hard alone,
Out here on my own

We're always provin' who we are
Always reachin' for the risin' star
To guide me far
And shine me home
Out here on my own

When I'm down and feelin' blue
I close my eyes so I can be with you
Oh, baby, be strong for me
Baby, belong to me
Help me through
Help me need you

Until the morning sun appears
Making light of all my fears
I dry the tears
I've never shown
Out here on my own

When I'm down and feelin' blue
I close my eyes so I can be with you
Oh, baby, be strong for me
Baby, belong to me
Help me through
Help me need you

Sometimes I wonder where I've been
Who I am
Do I fit in
I may not win
But I can't be thrown
Out here on my own
On my own

melrose,
a very nice song...one of the hits of all times...  it is a journey toward success, one must keep on believin, though we might be off the road, at least we've proven who we are for something, for someone, for a cause...

I never knew
I never knew that everything was falling through
That everyone I knew was waiting on a queue
To turn and run when all I needed was the truth
But that's how it's got to be
It's coming down to nothing more than apathy
I'd rather run the other way than stay and see
The smoke and who's still standing when it clears

Everyone knows I'm in
Over my head
Over my head
With eight seconds left in overtime
She's on your mind
She's on your mind

Let's rearrange
I wish you were a stranger I could disengage
Just say that we agree and then never change
Soften a bit until we all just get along
But that's disregard
Find another friend and you discard
As you lose the argument in a cable car
Hanging above as the canyon comes between

[Over My Head (Cable Car) Lyrics on http://www.lyricsmania.com]
Everyone knows I'm in
Over my head
Over my head
With eight seconds left in overtime
She's on your mind
She's on your mind

Everyone knows I'm in
Over my head
Over my head
With eight seconds left in overtime
She's on your mind
She's on your mind

And suddenly I become a part of your past
I'm becoming the part that don't last
I'm losing you and its effortless
Without a sound we lose sight of the ground
In the throw around
Never thought that you wanted to bring it down
I won't let it go down till we torch it ourselves

And everyone knows I'm in
Over my head
Over my head
With eight seconds left in overtime
She's on your mind
She's on your mind

Everyone knows
She's on your mind
Everyone knows I'm in over my head
I'm in over my head
I'm in over...

Everyone knows I'm in
Over my head
Over my head
With eight seconds left in overtime
She's on your mind
She's on your mind

JUN: yes, it's really a good song. one of my favorites.

WHO AM I?

3 positive things about me:
1. i'm passionate about work (and expect other people to be the same)
2. i'm optimistic about other people (but can be pretty naive about other people's negative sides)
3. i believe in love (love begets love! everything follows: love, joy, peace, long-suffering, gentleness, meekness, faith!)

3 negative things about me:
1. i can be lazy at times
2. i'm often impatient with things (i don't like to wait for people and opportunities to come my way)
3. low tolerance to mediocrity (i often hide it  but i get annoyed by half-hearted work and little talent? grrr!  ;D)

what others might see about us do not bear the underlying meaning of our true selves... for people behave as they get and react with the multi-faceted environment... we must learn to dislay the character that we have without reservation... for the good deeds beget good things... and everything will fall in line as melrose said.

mel, we have some resemblance...

It took me quite a while, thinking and re-thinking ... Kinsa ba jud ko?

My nieces and nephews call me Auntie Bru ... short for Auntie Bruha!

Yes, I could really be bitchy when provoked!  When I am on my normal mode, I am garrulous ... "Taratitat"!  But when I fume, I make it a point to shut up --- not wanting to say anything out of anger!

So ... my husband worries when I am tahimik ... because, it could be that:  I am not feeling well or I am on a warpath!   ;D :P  :D ;)

Not easy to have a detailed self description.  I think and I believe - I am a kind of person which possessed all what a human needed to
survive..... a bit of courage, patience, a sort of love and hatred, and a victim of twist of fate.

Each of us has the opportunity to excel on something which others might not have.... it is a matter of discovering them, nurturing them, enhancing them and maximizing its potentials...

when we do self-assessment or self-evaluation to know WHO WE ARE, you could define your weaknesses and strengths...but it must not end there... we have to fully utilize the strong points, make remedies for the weak points to prevent consequences and derive more positive results....

Jun: Yeah, love begets love. Good things beget good things. I just believe that if one holds that great big love in one's heart, then every good thing would naturally emanate from within. Goodness comes natural for that person.

Here's 1 Corinthians 13:1-13. The Book of Love.

1 If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels,
but have not love, I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal.

2 And if I have prophetic powers, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge,
and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing.

3 If I give away all I have, and if I deliver up my body to be burned,
but have not love, I gain nothing.

4 Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast;
it is not arrogant

5 or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; [2]

6 it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth.

7 Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.

8 Love never ends. As for prophecies, they will pass away; as for tongues, they will cease; as for knowledge, it will pass away.

9 For we know in part and we prophesy in part,

10 but when the perfect comes, the partial will pass away.

11 When I was a child, I spoke like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I gave up childish ways.

12 For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I have been fully known.

13 So now faith, hope, and love abide, these three; but the greatest of these is love.

 :)

love is the key for opening doors... for without it, this will be a constraint for accepting others, but before we will be successful, it must start from us, we cannot give love to others if we don't love ourselves... when love overflows.. ( not to the point of narcism ) this goes to others....

there is nothing wrong to experiment, could it be kamunggay or pine tree, when you try it, nurture (alimahan na) even in a different unusual environment, you will know what will happen.... if it fails, at least you tried... everything changes as time changes.... it is a process of discovering, of knowing....

that is right...so bilib gyod ko sa mga adventurist... explorer... scientist... for their patience... they're successful because they kept on experimenting... bisan ingnon ni sila to the point of mentally deranged because of its strangeness... in their behaviors...

I've plant kamunggay 2 times in Georgia infact State of Georgia have no snow, theres sometime but very minimal not like other state like Chicago. The Kamunggay mabuhi kung during summer pero pag during winters
mamatay. There's a time nga akong isulod sa among grahe during winters pero patay gihapon. In the Philippines if you want have an experiment try to plant a kmungay and put it inside the refrigerator.

the discovery of penicillin and light bulb/flourescent are similar... it took them a thousand times to experiment until they perfected it....

if we have to apply in our day-to-day encounters and varied endeavors... mao gihapon, so ayaw kapuol dayon....

people go for short term solution rather than a long term as they lack patience for waiting... that is why there is no permanent solution...
