My parents were very strict. My father was an inveterate gambler, and my mother is busy  of  buying luxurious items. The family finances were in shambles. My mother always compares me to my cousins who were mostly convent bred.  I taste spankings for small misbehavior and I was forced to kneel before the altar to pray for my sins. It was imprinted in my young mind that God is a punishing God. The extreme  childhood forced me to worked hard and not to depend on anybody.
I promised to myself that my future children will never taste physical force in their upbringings and I made it.

It is beautiful that you keep your father and mother in law close to your family, Tita Tess.
It is good, in my opinion, to maintain that beautiful bond of Lolo and Lola to their beloved apos. You have a beautiful family.

The Lord IS Love.

In Christ's Name.

My parents are already dead and it is a part of family upbringing as what we learned from our culture that siblings  be close to their grandparents.

No exact  descriptive words to describe my departed parents and how blessed we are to have them  in our lives as our loving parents. We are eleven (11) siblings in the family, three sisters and eights brothers., I am the 8th child.  My parents were from Pangangan, Calape, Bohol who at first built up their love-nest in that unperturbed  yet scenic  island, their union produced five of my siblings. My Papa was then a fisherman as he fondly and proudly narrated to us how they lived before in Bohol, he even engaged in tuba gathering, a coconut climber by expertise during his heydays, a job that requires strong determination, one false move on top of  the coconut tree and you’re ….. My parents lived in a descent way despite that somewhat impoverished situation that triggers their desires to look for a greener pasture in the Land  Of  Promise in Mindanao , tugging along my  five (5) siblings which were all  in their toddler/ younger years during those dire needs.  My parents found shelter and had settled in  Diatagon, Lianga, Surigao del Sur.   Because of my parents’ diligence and enthusiasm, they again, produced another  six (6) children including me, all boys, lucky enough that family planning had not been introduced before…  for being the 8th child in the family is really far from reality and possibility. From being fisherman, my papa did not lost his hope for his children, he had a positive outlook in life, aspiring that someday.. somehow his effort would be rewarded. His eldest brother in the name of Felipe Ytac, who was then a Public School Principal in Calape showed much concern over the situation of his younger brod in far-away land, away from Bohol, visited him in Mindanao and even offered some helps to alleviate the situation. God did not forsake my parents in their endeavor .. as the years passed by, they managed then their own business, had a home to call our own in a strategic area in Diatagon they even engaged in various ventures. Both of them, my Papa & Mama were then business-minded, papa was a great provider, our teacher, (we really appreciate his intelligence),   a great disciplinarian too,   to the extent of letting us knelt on the beads of corn grits as we committed some unpleasant actions & mistakes and my Mama was then our refuge, our protector who even begged for mercy to Papa not to harm us or else, Mama would face /confront him .. and their LQ (lover’s quarrel) erupted. (kanang ilang away mao na’y hinungdan nanaghan siguro mi, buyag..!  :)..) Anyway,  that’s the  real heart of being a mother I can see thru my own Mama. They reaped what they have sown, for almost all of us had finished a Degree. My parents union lasted for fifty five (55) years before God called them back to HIS glory and never seen  Pangangan anymore , their birthplace as they closed their eyes for their final breath … during their earthly life, both of them were involved and active in  some Catholic church organizations & activities such as Cursillo Seminar Movement (de Colores), a Devotee, GKK (Ginagmay’g Kristohanong Katilingban)  Leaders and the like.. They emulated & exemplified us with their good deeds and rapport.  To Papa & Mama .. you're always in  our hearts and mind.. wherever you maybe…

Hinumdumi sa kanunay…  â€œkung aduna kasing-kasing daling masakitan, puno sa kalooy ug paghiguma… kana,
                                         kasing-kasing sa usa ka inahan”..

What are the good qualities that you idolize about your parents that you like to emulate in your life? We all know that parents are the source of good manners for today's youth. So what are the things that you like about your parents--and what is it about them that  you love the most?

Nothing from my father. he doesn't have any good qualities in him. from my mom, her dedication to her family and she works hard to give us a good life, until now!

both were intelligent.  both showed generosity.

it was my father whose interests covered a wider range.  something in him wielded an aura of eccentricity. i enjoyed that.

looking back, i realized that my mom was limited by her specialization.  yet she was the disciplinarian, the one who hardly went out to socialize, the one who held that unselfish dedication to her family that was beyond reproach.  she's mother and martyr, my brother used to say.

both saw to it that we grew up aware of the primacy of religion in one's life.  they chose sectarian education for all of us-- the seminary for the boys, education by nuns for the girls.

we were not spared the rod.  but it was great growing up with books and music and endless discussions that went either way, in laughter or in tears.

this is trite, but true-- it's because of them that my siblings and i have become what we are.  as it turned out, i like what i am.  by the grace of heaven, i thank them thus.

Anna,

I am sorry to hear that your experience with your father was not as memorable, but it is best to forgive him of his faults - whatever they may be. Truly, you are blessed to have a loving mother who raised you to be a wonderful woman, and mother. Who continues to be a force of good in your life and in the lives of your children !!

God Bless your parents, Bai Vots! It is in helping , in giving, that one is receives the crown from Heaven. It is true: whatever one sows, one shall reap!

Sow good fruits and acts of righteousness, you shall reap the same. But, in all things, seek the Kingdom of God....8)

Me and my brother call our father "Uncle".. kani laging mahubog nagjoke joke man nga uncle na among itawag sa iyaha. if not, posasan daw mi (my dad is a policeman) we were kids pa so hadlok gyud mi..nagdako mi uncle ang tawag namo sa iya pero wala pod nabawasan among respeto sa iya. he was a family man. on my mid 20's i got kicked out of the house thrice ;D but inspite of that, i never hated him rather i'm thankful to him cos i learned how to survive and stand on my own feet ^_^ i tried calling him "Papa" pero awkward na kaayo sa akong part.  my mom, she's the best of course. my protector, my guide, my bestfriend...

When You Thought I Wasn't Looking

Author: unknown

When you thought I wasn't looking, I saw you hang up my first painting on the refrigerator, and I wanted to paint another one.

Parents with little childWhen you thought I wasn't looking, I saw you feed a stray cat, and I thought it was good to be kind to animals.

When you thought I wasn't looking, I saw you make my favorite cake for me, and I knew that little things are special things.

When you thought I wasn't looking, I heard you say a prayer, and I believed there is a God I could always talk to.

When you thought I wasn't looking, I felt you kiss me goodnight, and I felt loved.

When you thought I wasn't looking, I saw that you cared, and I wanted to be everything that I could be.

When you thought I wasn't looking, I LOOKED... and wanted to say thanks for all the things I saw when you thought I wasn't looking.
