Makati Business Community Favors Gibo Teodoro

Lakas-Kampi-CMD standard bearer Gilberto "Gibo" Teodoro Jr. on Thursday made an impression with the elite Makati Business Club (MBC) when he laid down his clear-cut platform of governance, specifically his plan to uplift the economic condition of the country.

"They (businessmen) were very impressed. Gibo is very articulate," said MBC president Alberto Lim, when asked how the members viewed Teodoro.

Teodoro was the guest at the MBC general meeting held at the Hotel Intercon in Makati City where he was grilled by businessmen about his platform of governance.

"We feel the economy is very important. In fact, we are working on a first year plan that we will offer to all (presidential) candidates for them to react," said Lim.

He said the MBC is planning to draft an economic agenda that they would give to the presidential candidates.

During the forum, Teodoro vowed to work for an eight percent growth in gross domestic product (GDP) that would be sustainable throughout his term should he be elected president.

He also promised to increase the gross per capita income of Filipinos from US$ 1900 to US$ 3200.

Teodoro said these would be his "tall order," noting that good governance and good fiscal policy would make these attainable.

The former Defense Secretary earlier said the government needs more money to address the damage of an extended dry spell brought by El Nino phenomenon. - PNA
