Better study its do's and don'ts first before you submit your application.

Do

1. Go to Stanford, Harvard, or MIT. though Google has relaxed its GPA standards of late - and now considers candidates with less than a 3.7 average - be prepared to discuss any B's you may have earned.

2. Stress how well you get along with others. Unlike some companies that tolerate lone wolves, Google (Charts) wants team players who'll gladly work cheek by jowl with their teammates.

3. Talk about your many diverse interests ("I fly-fish! And love chess! And breed water buffalo!") Narrow interests or skills are a big time turnoff at Google.

4. Be prepared to get up at a whiteboard and write software code during your interview. Brush up on "bit twiddling," by the way. Really.

Don't

1. Joke about the whole Don't Be Evil (business philosophy) thing. Googlers take their goodness very seriously.

2. Go on and on in your interview about the doctoral project that you didn't bother building or trying to commercialize. Google likes doers, not thinkers

3. Talk about money. they'll think you're just trying to get rich. Even though you probably are, it's something you're not supposed to discuss out loud

4. Mention the competition. in its eyes, everything at Google is sui generis. Other than programming languages, if it wasn't invented at Google, it's not worth discussing.

I have seen somewhere in TV that these two guys (founder of google, one of them is a Russian immigrant) does'nt even have a car of their own even they are now worth billions. They stick to their philosophy of don't be evil. They go to work & meetings in just T-Shirts and Jeans...

Moreover, I discourage those who are big-eaters.... google has a 24-hour kitchen, food is free and they have the longest list of menu documented in guiness book of world records with chefs and cooks almost equal in number with the programmers. They believe that "a well fed employee is a good employee"... So, beware... you may die of obesity....

Also, google believes that corporates are evil money makers, so their homepage is free from any advertisers unlike yahoo..... palitik akong itlog kung dili tinood.....

Further…. I now remembered… they are Larry Page and Sergey Brin…

It was between 1995 & 1997 when google was founded….it was in those great years when the world had produced the greatest number of great men, not to mention our very own Mike Ligalig who graduated valedictorian at “……..” unsaon ba to pag pronounce sa ngan adtong iskwelahana uy…. Mike pareha man diay mo ug gi graduate-tan ni Jun Ayag.... Siya sab ang valedictorian sa 19forgoten...

On your way to the interview, be sure to pick up a bottle of Visine or two to wipe that perpetual "dollor sign" on your eyes. They won't like it. Not a chance.

"Their business naiveté was a plus. It helped them avoid many common mistakes of the dotcom age. For instance, the site went live before Page and Brin had thought to hire a webmaster. So while search giants like Yahoo were filling their home pages with news headlines, stock quotes and sports scores, Google had nothing but a search box and logo."

i am so into google because everything is so simple and no-clutter! you want something, they get it and served it without any frills! they now have an office in beijing though. the colorful neon sign of google stands out in the drab red and blue neons of beijings skyline. when i went there, it was COOL funky office where people can saunter off to the pantry and grab fruits and yoghurt or chox or anything! they're recreation area has pingpong tables and a wide screen plasma tv where people can play PS3!!! and they have tents littered in the office for resting! great great great atmosphere!

This is a challenge to you guys.....can you guess how google got its revenues without corporate sponsors?...

Life Inside Google

Life for Google employees at the Mountain View campus is like college. It feels like the brainiest university imaginable - one in which every kid can afford a sports car (though geeky hybrids are cooler here than hot rods).

Here the shabbily dressed engineers always will be the big men (and, yes, women) on campus. "Hard-core geeks are here because there's no place they'd rather be," says Dennis Hwang, a Google Webmaster.

Another similarity to college: New Googlers (Nooglers, in Google parlance) tend to pile on the "Google 15" when confronted with all the free food.

Google's employment roster is now pushing 10,000, and, in addition to the Mountain View headquarters, the company has burgeoning offices in Bangalore, New York City and Irvine, Calif., among many other cities.

Excerpt:

At Google it always comes back to the food. Google runs 11 free gourmet cafeterias at its Mountain View, Calif., headquarters, and offers all its employees free gourmet meals...

In addition to its cafés, Google has snack rooms which contain various cereals, candy, nuts, yogurt, carrots, fresh fruit and other snacks, and dozens of different drinks including soda and make-your-own cappuccino. Says co-founder Sergey Brin: "The cafés have always been pretty healthy, but the snacks are not, and the efforts to fix that have been remarkably challenging." Though company lore has it that Brin and co-founder Larry Page believe no worker should be more than 150 feet from a food source, clearly not all food is equal. "A lot of people like their M&Ms. But the easy access is actually what's bad for them," he says.

Of course, when it comes to America's new Best Company to Work For, the food is, well, just the appetizer.

Dear Sigbin,

I guess if you do not invent your own program, you can apply as a cook or a yoga instructor....

Can I be a cook specializing in pork?

Most people at Google are vegetables and fruits consumers. :)

Hmmm.... All of a sudden, I've lost interest. I don't know why.

Why won't we invite Google to have an office in Bohol. A programmer needs a peaceful atmosphere like Bohol. If most of the google staff prefers a simple lifestyle, then Bohol is a perfect place for them.... I am offering my inherited land in Bilar Bohol, just a couple of miles after Bilar Man-made Forest... they can stay as long as they want at FOC.

ben

I just hope they stick to their 'don't be evil' principle. They have so much power now - comparable to a huge media conglomerate like News International. Could do a lot of damage if it was taken over by some Lex Luther type.

C2H4

Mr Ben,

if that happens, I'm sure we can produce a Clark Kent...

I can now imagine our very own Admin in the spandex Superman costume...

What other options do we have at Google if we're not Stanford, Harvard or MIT grads? :-\

I'm not sure if this info is accurate though, because in the Silicon Valley and Mountain View area, siguro about 70% of their engineers and programmers are Indians, most of them from India jud, not US born indians.

If you're going through hell...keep on going...
