G-Xchange, Inc (GXI), the mobile commerce subsidiary of Globe Telecom, ends 2011 with around P4.5 billion worth of Conditional Cash Transfers (CCT) via its domestic cash pick-up service GCASH REMIT in over 9,000 barangays nationwide.

Paolo Baltao, president of GXI, said this amount benefits 700,000 households or 30% of the target 2.3-million CCT family beneficiaries in 2011.

As of August, approximately P9 billion cash grants were released by the government for distribution to beneficiaries nationwide.

Spearheaded by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) and state-owned Land Bank of the Philippines, the CCT program is a three-year-old poverty alleviation program that gives out cash assistance to the country’s poorest families in exchange for compliance on conditions such as sending their children to school, having infants immunized from diseases, and mothers visiting community health centers.

On the average, families complying with the conditions can get cash grants of P1,200-P1,400 monthly.

Last year, DSWD and Land Bank tapped GXI to pay out cash grants focusing on hard-to-reach areas. Cash transfers were made thru GCASH REMIT’s payout partners that include rural banks, cooperatives and Globe sub-dealers. - Manila Bulletin
