Cellphone, Portable Devices Bad For Your Memory

Can't remember life before mobiles? Chances are you'll also struggle to recall your home phone number and family birthdays.

According to a survey released on Friday, the boom in mobiles and portable devices that store reams of personal information has created a generation incapable of memorizing simple things.

A quarter of those polled said they couldn't remember their landline number, while two-thirds couldn't recall the birthdays of more than three friends or family members.

The tech-savvy young fared worse than older people. The under-30s could remember fewer birthdays and numbers than the over-50s, according to the survey.

Two-thirds said they relied on their phone or electronic organiser to remember key dates.

"People have more to remember these days and they are relying on technology more for their memory," said Ian Robertson, professor of psychology at Trinity College, Dublin.

Researchers polled 3,000 people over the last two weeks in the survey for Puzzler Brain Trainer magazine.

i'm a cellphone freak but i dont really rely on my phone when it comes to remembering my loveones birthdays, anniv or any important dates..even my friends/relatives landline phones. i make it sure that i store these important details in my own memory rather my phone's although i can't remember all of my friends mobile number kay taas kaayo..hehehe! if you rely too much on your mobile, magkabuang ka if someone will stole your phone. which is by the way, happens to my sister not just 3 times but 4.

tinuod jud ni nga nagsalig nalang sa phone memory ang kadaghanan karon, ako bana gani dili ka memorize sa iyang kaugalingong phone, mao pud gani tingale kay 3 man pud kabuok phone hahaha..

naa sab koy mga bag-o nga gikaila, mangutana ko unsa diay ila number, naunsa ba nga adto amn mangutana sa ilang kauban kung ra gani ilang number.. unsaon man gud pagkamemorize nga automayic man mogawas inig send ug text message.

Pero wala jud ko makasag-ulo sa numbers sa ako mga friends.. sa ako nuonfamily ka-memrize ko kay permi manko tawag nya labi na dugay makontak sige ra jud balik balik dial, maong memorize dayon.
