Fritz Klingenberg


He was one of the first archetypical heroes of the Waffen-SS and recieved the Ritterkreuz for his exploits in Yugoslavian campaign of 1941. And your'e absolutely right that Belgrade "wasn't fought over in 1941", this was because Klingenberg and a very small detatchment from the "Das Reich" Division practically bluffed the City's Mayor and defenders that they were the spearhead of an entire Panzer Korps. The bluff worked and the Yugoslavs surrendered their capitol. Fritz Klingenberg achieved this with strength of about 10 SS-soldiers.

whatever their role was during the war (they could have been heroes had they won and history would have been written differently), they're just boys who toed the line of duty and patriotism, whether they liked it or not.  look at them enjoying a kitten in their midst despite the grenade.  such respite from fighting just to survive the battlefield must seem like heaven.

indeed. many of them were indoctrinated into the Hitler Youth and knew nothing but the National Socialist Party. they were doing what was expected of them for their German Fatherland. millions of young, handsome German men were sent to their deaths for that war.

doubtless it is, and so american at that and repeatedly said so.  but i never fail to recall the words of the banana republic's brod-in-law; 'a gun will always kill'.  a writer (in time magazine) recently wrote something like one can't help but wonder why there are strict rules against bringing a shampoo in one's carry-on in airplanes but there are no rules against bringing a gun to a grocery store.

looks like he had to, by way of a gentle reminder that in our country there's no constitutional amendment that unwittingly enables high-powered guns to end in the hands of maladjusted teenagers like those in columbine, or in the hands of 13-year-olds, or in the hands of a brain-addled loner who shot a congresswoman.  y'know, waffle, rifle, apple, truffle, single, double, fumble, stumble...

these are instances of violations of 2nd amendment right, however, they were included in the US constitution and integral to american law and policy. it is so sensitive, may i add, that any proposal in us congress of a possible gun ban, gun-control measures, have been destroyed.

like any right, it should be practiced with respect and responsibility. clearly, the examples of the columbine students were maligned, depressed, non-normative teenagers with adjustment disorders illustrated in their murder spree. they do not represent the american teenagers in this country. nor do they represent the majority of the millions of americans who own guns.

the world's view of the german soldier as being 'evil' and 'tyrannical' is the result of yellow journalism and militant labeling ; the effect of war-time propaganda. the view that 'all germans' and 'all japs' and 'all italians' were evil and the enemy.
