Corella, Bohol was a barrio of Baclayon

Corella is an interior town northeast of Tagbilaran. It is said to be formerly called Nug-as. This municipality used to belong to the municipality of Baclayon, being a barrio of that town. When it was organized as a regular municipality in 1884, it was named Corella.

Yes, Corella before was called Nug-as, part of Baclayon. It was changed to Corella in  honor of the patron saint Our Lady of the Village who showed miracle in Corella Spain. If you look at the world map, Alamacs, you can see Corella, a town in Spain.

OT but I am just wondering what is Nug-as?  I know there's a place in Alcoy, Cebu called Nug-as.  Is that a kind of endangered tree?

I was born in Canangca-an Corella. I did  not hear my  lolo  mentioned the word Nug-as. He said that Corella was a place in Spain where the blessed Virgin Mary showed apparation in a village so that the patron saint is called Our Lady of the Village, or Inahan sa Dios sa Villar.
