History of Valencia, Bohol

Valencia is on the southern coast of Bohol. It is forty-two kilometers from the capital. Its former name is said to be "Panangatan," which is derived from "Sang-at", meaning to put up on an elevated place. It is said that many years ago, on windy days, fishermen from Dimiao and Lila used to seek shelter at the mouth of the Panangatan River when the southwest moonsoon was very strong. Here they would put up (sang-at) their boats on the banks of the river where nipa palms grew in order to prevent them from being washed away by the waves. When the Spaniards came, Panangatan was still a part of Dimiao. It was separated in 1867, the year a Spanish priest was assigned to the municipality. The priest gave it the new name, after that of a seaport city in Spain. In 1879 Valencia had a population of 7,009.(the provincial government)

Then we are distant relatives! My lolo of my mother's side is Casiano Salise Salvo, son of the late Mr. Ricardo Salvo and the late Mrs. Donisia Salise Salvo. Taga anas pood na sila. However, my grandfather is from Valencia proper--where he lived with my late grandmother, Mrs. Fortunata Tan-Salvo.

bro lorenz, a friend is asking kung unsa daw ang ok nga state to practice nursing. shes applying for the states man. i saw new jersey as 5th most livable state. ok ba mag practice nursing diha?

Bro, there are increased regulations here. I know that my cousin is a graduated nurse and is currently working in Bohol as a nurse, and at the same time waiting for response to come to the states. Ang 'Ok' states that are open to immigrant nurses are Texas, California, New York, New Jersey, Florida, etc. There should be more. You're friend would do better if she/he were to contact the United States Embassy in Manila vis-a-vis a phone or email and relay the same question. They can better elucidate the matter than I could.

New Jersey is a great state to live, the standard of living in New Jersey is pretty high, one of the highest in the entire country; but the rate of pay is also pretty nice. As far as im concerned, nurses are pretty much needed here, despite the saturation in the present.
